Tbilisi Mural Fest

The Tbilisi Mural Fest was launched in 2019 and has been held annually ever since. What began in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi has since expanded to the cities of Kutaisi, Batumi, Gori, and Gurjaani. At its core is the collaboration between local artists and internationally renowned muralists, with the clear ambition of placing Georgia among the leading destinations of the global street art scene.

The founder and organizer of the Tbilisi Mural Fest is Georgian artist and curator Besik Maziashvili, who lives in Berlin and also participates in the festival as a mural artist himself. Under the motto "Street is our Gallery", the festival transforms the city into a public exhibition space. Its canvases are primarily the large concrete facades of Soviet-era apartment blocks, many of which rise ten to twelve stories high.

The festival features leading Georgian artists alongside internationally acclaimed muralists such as JBL (Netherlands), Vesod (Italy), Fintan Magee (Australia), Case Maclaim (Germany) and Sasha Korban (Ukraine). Thanks to its strong media presence, the festival has achieved considerable success. Tbilisi is now widely regarded as a vibrant street art hub and attracts prominent international artists every year. In 2023, the Tbilisi City Hall allocated 500,000 GEL to support the festival's activities.

Das Tbilisi Mural Fest wurde 2019 ins Leben gerufen und findet seither jedes Jahr in der georgischen Hauptstadt Tbilissi sowie in den Städten Kutaissi, Batumi, Gori und Gurjaani statt. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Zusammenarbeit lokaler Künstler mit internationalen Star-Muralisten, mit dem klaren Ziel, Georgien auf die vordersten Plätze der weltweiten Street Art Szene zu bringen.

Gründer und Organisator des Tbilisi Mural Fest ist der in Berlin lebende georgische Künstler und Kurator Besik Maziashvili, der auch selbst als Mural Künstler beteiligt ist.

Unter dem Motto "Street is our Gallery" verwandelt das Festival die Stadt in einen öffentlichen Ausstellungsraum. Als Leinwände dienen vor allem die großflächigen Betonfassaden sowjetischer Plattenbausiedlungen, die sich häufig über zehn bis zwölf Stockwerke erstrecken.

Beteiligt sind namhafte georgische Künstler sowie internationale Größen wie JBL (Niederlande), Vesod (Italien), Fintan Magee (Australien), Case Maclaim (Deutschland) und Sasha Korban (Ukraine).

Dank seiner starken Medienpräsenz verzeichnet das Festival große Erfolge. Tbilissi gilt inzwischen als trendige Street Art Metropole und zieht jedes Jahr neue namhafte internationale Künstler an. 2023 stellte die Stadtverwaltung Tbilissi 500,000 GEL zur Unterstützung der Aktivitäten bereit.
