Abkhazia is Georgia
Das Mural zeigt drei ikonische Orte Abchasiens: oben die Reste der Bedia Kathedrale, in der Mitte das Restaurant Gagripshi in Gagra und unten den Strand von Bitschwinta (Pizunda). Entstanden ist das Werk auf Initiative der Bewohner selbst - Binnenvertriebene aus Abchasien, die 1992 während des Krieges ihre Heimat verlassen mussten. Heute leben sie in diesem Gebäude in Tbilisi, während ihre Heimatregion weiterhin von Russland besetzt ist.
A few residents sat in the courtyard as I took pictures on Sunday afternoon, so I decided to approach and ask about the mural, which turned into a friendly conversation about their lives here, Abkhazia itself, and, of course, a bit of politics. Even though the home is far away, this mural is a hope, desire, and aspiration to return.
As I waved goodbye, one man said: "We'll meet you there!".
