The mural is based on the photograph “Mokhevian Woman” taken in 1928 by Sergi Makalatia.
The image shows Nina Sujashvili (Iacobianti), a woman from the mountain region of Khevi in northeastern Georgia - a member of the Mokhevian community - wearing traditional attire. Her expression and posture vividly convey the strength and resilience of the mountain people who have lived in this remote area for centuries.

Sergi Makalatia (1893-1976) was a prominent Georgian ethnographer and historian who researched and documented the cultural heritage and way of life of Georgia’s mountain regions. His work can be seen at the Sergi Makalatia Historical and Ethnographic Museum in Gori.

For this mural Gera1 reimagines the 20th-century black and white photos in his distinctive style, infusing them with a burst of vibrant colors that are characteristic of his artwork, adding a contemporary twist to Georgian tradition.

This mural, located in Varketili on the outskirts of Tbilisi, depicts a woman in traditional local attire surrounded by symbols of her era and Georgian heritage. She dominates the canvas, brought to life in vivid colors, symbolizing the revival of tradition from a modern perspective. The distortion and alteration of her face represent the various facets of her personality.
